Tuina Massage

Tuina (推拿) is a form of Chinese therapeutic massage. It uses pressing, kneading, rolling and stretching techniques along muscles and the channels described in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is often used for tension and musculoskeletal discomfort.

What it involves

  • Firm, focused bodywork on specific areas rather than a general spa massage.
  • Usually given through light clothing or a sheet, with or without oil.

Your consultation

  • A discussion of your concern, any injuries, and how tuina may fit alongside acupuncture or cupping.

What to expect

  • Pressure ranges from gentle to firm. Tell Dr Patel how it feels, as it should never be more than you are comfortable with.
  • Some people feel a little tender the next day, much as after exercise.

Before you book: precautions

Please let Dr Patel know about the following. They do not always rule treatment out, but they help her keep you safe.

  • Mention recent injuries, fractures, osteoporosis, skin conditions or pregnancy.

This information is general. Your suitability for any treatment is assessed individually at your consultation.
